In the summer season various sports competitions take place here and they are introduced by the Murter-Kornati Cup regatta -(by 1988, 118 sailboats were competing in the Kornati Cup, and it has quickly become one of the biggest regattas on the east coast of the Adriatic). In september in Murter there is the Latinsko Idro, or ‘Latin Sail’ Regatta which was first organized in 1998 to celebrate the feast of St. Michael, the patron saint of the parish of Murter. It represents a celebration of all the local Murter knowledge, crafts, techniques, faiths, individuality and the maritime legacy of this remarkable group of islands. The Latinsko Idro event has always contained a rich, cultural programme.
Murter Traditional festivities areSt. Roko (16th August), Murter festivity of Mala gospa (Nativity of the Virgin Mary -8th September). When speaking of cultural events, the Festival of drama amateurs is of significant importance (in May). Although very much a rural village, over its history Murter has cultivated, nurtured and preserved the highest standards of culture, especially communal and spiritual expression. Authentic stone-vaulted streets, simple dwellings, stone walls covered with ivy, combined with modest but innovative ingenuity have all served to preserve the story of Murter from vanishing into the history books.
